Nyokum celebrated with enthusiasm
ITANAGAR, Feb 28: The Nyokum, the annual agriculture based festival of Nyishis was celebrated with much enthusiasm and traditional gaiety at Parang circle on February 26 last.
Addressing the festive revelers, Civil Aviation, Science and Technology Minister Thangwang Wangham called upon them to promote and preserve the rich culture and heritage.

DAPORIJO, Feb 28: A team of Daporijo police has nabbed two burglars in the wee hours
today while they were running away with the stolen goods from shops in Daporijo.

Three more PET and PST Centres in Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Feb 28: The Central Govt has decided to open three more PET and PST centres in Arunachal Pradesh in addition to existing Centres at Itanagar and Tezu. This was made possible due to relentless efforts of Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, according to an official release.
Now for Arunachal Pradesh the PET and PST for recruitment to the posts of Constable/GD for Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) and Assam Rifles (AR), which has been advertised on January 24, 2015 will be held in 138 Bn. Officials to visit Sainik School site at Niglok

PASIGHAT, Feb 28: Officials of Sainik School Society (SSS) under Union Ministry of Defence will be arriving at Ruksin on March three along with state government representatives to conduct land survey of the proposed site for setting up Sainik School at Niglok IGC in East Siang district, district administration sources said.
It may be recalled that a joint survey team constituted by Arunachal Pradesh government during May last year visited Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) at Niglok under Ruksin circle and conducted primary survey for setting up a Sainik School there.

Govt proposes film production & gaming centre in Arunachal

KOLKATA, Feb 28: For the North Eastern states, a centre for film production, animation and gaming will be set up in Arunachal Pradesh, said Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, while presenting the Union Budget 2015 in Lok Sabha on Saturday.
The proposal by the Minister has been given a thumbs up by the industry players as they feel that Arunachal Pradesh should get promoted. “It is an encouraging step, no doubt about it,” said a media executive.
The blueprint might state in details all plans of the government for the film production, animation and gaming centre.
The government is also likely to launch a National Skills Mission through the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry. Jaitley said that the Mission will consolidate skill initiatives spread across several ministries. It will allow the government to standardize procedures and outcomes across 31 Sector Skill Councils, he added.
“India is one of the youngest nations in the world with more than 54 per cent of the total population below 25 years of age. Yet today less than five per cent of our potential workforce gets formal skill training to be employable and stay employable,” said Jaitley.

Small tea growers flay CM’s subsidy scheme

ITANAGAR, Feb 28: Expressing their strong discontent with the way the Chief Minister’s Plantation Crop Mission’ scheme is being implemented, the tea farmers of East Siang district, including the members of Small Tea Growers’ Association of Siang basin, alleged that the scheme has totally failed to fulfil the needs and aspiration of the farmers.
They alleged that the scheme is benefitting some unscrupulous businessmen/contract suppliers only.
The small tea growers of the district are unhappy to know that many actual and needy farmers have been deprived from the benefit of the scheme. They allege that the district level selection committee does not select the beneficiaries on need base, verifying the plantation activities and availability of land thereby discouraging the progressive farmers.

ANSU, NES demand exemplary punishment for rapists
ITANAGAR, Feb 28: While expressing deep shock over the recent kidnap and rape of two school going minors in Seppa in East Kameng district, the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has urged the state government, especially the home department, to act tough and prompt against the accused persons and give them exemplary punishment so that other are forewarned.
While condemning the heinous crime in its strongest term, ANSU urged the administration not to grant bail to the arrested person. It also demanded to apprehend the absconding accused at the earliest and book him under appropriate sections of the law.
“Rapist has no place in this civilized society of today’s world,” the Union said. It appealed to all sections of the society to come forward and extend their fullest cooperation to the administration in apprehending the culprits in order to curb the menace of such evil acts in near future. While condemning the inhumane and dastardly act of rape of two minors at Seppa in its strongest term, Nyishi Elite Society (NES) urged the district administration and police to arrest the remaining culprit, who is on the run, immediately and book them under appropriate sections of the law.
NES demanded that the alleged accused should be tried in a fast tract court to ensure their early punishment.
The National Students Union of India (NSUI), Arunachal Pradesh Unit also strongly condemned the Seppa rape case and demanded the authority to give exemplary punishment to both the rapists. It also requested the public to cooperate with the police in nabbing the absconding accused at the earliest.

Remove the lacuna in Statehood Act : PPA

The party urged the Governor to intervene and initiate appropriate steps considering the extremely poor financial status of the state to contain the situation from deteriorating further.

Medicinal plants are important for human life, most of the medicinal plants found are wild in nature. These medicinal plants are source of Indian health care system known as Ayurveda. Beside it, these medicinal plants also have important place in Chinese and Tibetan system of health care.
Growth of medicinal plant is affected by different factors like physiographic factor, climatic and soil agents of a particular region. Unscientific exploitation of the medicinal plant has pushed some species to extinct and some others are at an endangered stage.
Taking into account the medicinal importance of these medicinal plants and the lack of knowledge on adequate cultivation practice, this article has been written to acquaint the farmer of Arunachal Pradesh to the cultivation practices of some medicinal plants which can be grown successfully and have the potential to change the economic status of farmers. The state has huge scope in cultivation of medicinal plants, particularly, High Altitude Medicinal plants such as Aconitum heterophyllum, Nardostychus jatamansi, Piccrorhiza kurroa, Swertia chirata and Area suitable for cultivation of these high altitude medicinal plants are Tawang, West Kameng, Upper reaches of West Siang, Upper Subansiri and Anjaw district.

The economic part of this plant is root and rhizomes. The active compound from this plant are Kutkin, Kutkoside and Picroside I and II, which are used as Tonic, improves apetite, act as purgative and used in curing jaundice and in influenza.
This plant is cultivated from 2500 – 4000 (m) above sea level. The normal sowing time of this crop is April – May, it is sown by seed or stolen segments. If it is sown by seed, then 1 kg seed is sufficient for sowing 1 hectare area, if sown by stolen segments, then quantity required for sowing 1 hectare area is 80 – 100 kg. The seed or stolen segments should be sown at an spacing of 60cm x 30cm. The plants become ready for harvesting after 3 years in October and November.
Yield: A well managed crop will yield 5 – 6 q dried roots, stolen and 5 kg seed from 1 hectare area.

English name: Chiretta
Family: Gentianaceae
The whole plant of this medicinal plant is important, but from commercial point of view its root are very valuable. The compound found in this plant which have medicinal importance are Gentianine, Swerchirin and gentiopicroside. In medicine it is used as anti inflammatory drug, beside it, also used in cure of piles, ulcers, skin diseases, stomachic and as a antihelminthic.
This plant is cultivated at an altitude of 2000 – 3200 (m) above sea level. The normal sowing time of this plant is April – May. The plant is propagated by seed. 2 – 3 kg seed is sufficient for planting 1 hectare area. The seed should be sown at a spacing of 30cm x 30cm. The plants become ready for harvesting in the month of September – October after eight months.
Yield: A well managed crop of chirayata, will yield 6 – 8q dried plants from 1 hectare area. This plant is also difficult to propagate and comes under threatened species.

The leaders of various religious organisations present expressed gratitude to the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh for initiating steps towards religious amity in the State. ‘Sneh Milan’ is the follow up of the ‘All Faith Meeting’ conducted by Raj Bhawan, Itanagar.
Earlier, in an audiovisual message Sri Shri Ravi Shankar expressed hope that such meetings will be held regularly and bring people of all faiths together. He advised all the participants to be connected to love and God.
Large numbers of people representing various faith groups attended the function. Schoolchildren from Sri Sri Ravi Sankar Vidhya Mandir, Itanagar presented a dance depicting communal harmony. Chanting of prayers and sharing of views were part of the programme.

ITANAGAR, Feb 28: A social interaction cum felicitation programme exclusively for the Topo clan of Tagin society was organised by Tagin Welfare Society (TWS) at Banquet Hall here yesterday.

in present days is a major concern for the state government. It is crippling like
communicable disease across the state which should be controlled by each and every
responsible society of the state.” He added that there are several government schemes

Byaling also appealed the TWS in particular that evil practise of the society should be shorted out by them for smooth development in the state.
Regarding the education system in Upper Subansiri district, he said equal distribution of teachers particularly in rural area should be made for quality education in the district.
He further appealed Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) and TWS to shoulder responsibility for smooth functioning of administration and improved law and order system in Upper Subansiri district.
The programme is exclusively dedicated to Topo clan, said TWS chairman Rudham Sindhu. He said the society organised such programme to strength the brotherhood and to facilitate the youth of the society who achieved remarkable places in the fields of education, sports, culture and traditions etc.
Senior member and Executive Engineer, PWD Naharlagun, Taniya Soki said “there are several positive and negative layers in every society and one should not feel disgrace to introduce themselves with their own identity in the society.”
Informing that transportation and poor connectivity is a cause of concern for the Upper Subansiri district, Soki said the problem should be shorted out at the earliest by opening a short route with Assam for faster development of the district.
Talking against the bandh culture, he called upon the youths of the district to extend cooperation in construction of ongoing Arunachal Trans High Way project in the district. “Local or commercial business cannot be sustained until we don’t find better market to distribute our commodities,” he further said.
Secretary General TWS, Advocate Tambo Loriak, MLA, Daporijo Dikto Yekar and other senior member also spoke on the occasion.
Later, the youth icons of the society were felicitated. The awardees for games and sports include Nishu Koni, who earlier in 2014 won Mr. Arunachal Pradesh and Mr. North Eastern Zonal Body Building Championship held in Imphal, Manipur while Tachung Dupit and Kakio Siga were felicitated for winning the Grand Master, State Chess Championship on 2014 and to achieve Kumite, Judge C category under Karate Association of India respectively.
In education sector, Oyi Nasi, Kajen Lusi Debom and Taro Jeram were facilitied for achieving Assistance Engineer post in APPSC examination while Dekio Gumja, Niajar Gussar and Tabom Soki were felicitated for topping the post of CDPO and ACF in APPSC examination during the session of 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Kokia Rigia, Yaro Nayam and Duma Dujom Loriak were felicitated for their hard labour in delivering best cultural dress and music composition respectively while Diyum Bui Memorial Public School, Dumporijo was felicitated for outstanding contribution in education sector.
